As most of our work is Digital I will cover this process first:
1: I use two cameras for all events. Plus my assistant also takes duplicate photos of the formal shots.
2: When convenient, normally during the Wedding Breakfast, I back up the camera to a Laptop and then an external drive.
3: At the office I now have 3 options:
Use the images stored on the laptop.
Use the external Hard Drive in the main Computer.
Use the images that are stored in the camera.
I can't guarantee 100% that nothing will happen but take great care to minimise any risk.
Once the images are processed, the delivered images are uploaded to the Zenfolio server, which gives an extra level of Inter-Continental backup. They are also stored on the main Office machine, and external drive in the office and an external drive offsite.
With Film I use two cameras again but the nature of film means I don't know if I had an issue until it is developed and although I use professional labs I am in their hands also. But I have not lost a film or had a developer issue in 20+ years.
